BUT...What if I don't?

Oct 01, 2020

If you know what these are, I suspect you're envious...& understandably so.

My husband’s Camry is a 2006 & is fantastic enough to have a cassette player.  Yeah, that’s right.

He brought these tapes into the house the other day, which reminded me I had forgotten to listen to them on the last road trip we took with his car...at least a year ago.

There’s clearly a lot to appreciate here...A functioning cassette player...Tiffany…

But what I appreciate most is the clarity I provided by labeling TWO of the tapes “Everything.”  Obviously, neither contained everything or I wouldn’t have had the need for two.

Runner up for level of appreciation?  The level of patience I had when I created the “Everything” tapes.  All the time spent sitting by the radio...quite possibly during the weekly Top 40...anxiously awaiting a favorite song.

Imagine the insanity that would result if we requested a 12 year old sit by the radio today, patiently awaiting his favorite song to play, then immediately & simultaneously hitting Play & Record.

Ummmm…You want me to sit by the what?

And these days, our patience dwindles when we’re without WiFi to remind ourselves of wildly important information...such as the year Tiffany’s hits were released.

(1987, by the way.)

I know it’s time to say good-bye to my tape collection...soon...Maybe after one more sing along in the Camry.  And a photo shoot of me holding them with a boombox…& a side ponytail.

But it’s so hard to let things go sometimes, isn’t it?

This can apply to so many things, can’t it?

Cassette tapes, maybe even some 8 track tapes…(which reminds me...I have a box of VHS tapes to go through as well.)

Maybe it’s hard to let go of a particular relationship...

Maybe a particular job...

Maybe it’s just the stack of jeans from college...

Because...What if, right?

What if I end up wishing I still had it?

BUT...What if I don’t?

What if the joy of freeing myself is even better?

What can I do with that time or space instead?

How about you?  What are you still holding onto?

It may be time to have one last sing along, then let it go. 😊
