Eating Cereal with a Fork?
Jul 16, 2025How do you eat your cereal? What tools do you generally use?
The other day I reminded my son it was time to go and told him to finish up his bowl of cereal...which appeared to be just as full as it had 10 minutes earlier.
"Buddy, it's taking you a loooonnng time to eat that cereal. We need to go."
Then...as he ever so slowly took his next bite...I noticed he was eating it with a fork.
"Ummm...Please help me understand why you're eating cereal with a fork."
"All the little spoons are dirty."
Familiar with his strong distaste for "big" spoons, it made some level of sense, but clearly not 100%.
"So rather than using a big spoon...or perhaps a ladle...You chose a fork?"
Yep."
My 13-year old operates on his time. Always. So much so, he's unphased by eating cereal with a fork. A BIG spoon would phase him. A fork? Nah.
I was just glad we weren't out of bowls.
He's a bright kid who's about as laid back as they come. And he could not have cared less about where we needed to be by when and the impact of his cereal consumption.
Does your team ever feel like they're eating cereal with a fork? And do they care?
Do you?
Ever feel like you could do things far more efficiently and effectively if you had the right tools?
What you're doing is fine. Work is getting done.
But if you or your team is less laid back than my son (which is likely), how much frustration are you experiencing in the meantime?
And what's the point?
Imagine how much less frustrating it could be if you and your team had the right tools. The tools to understand who is best suited for each task. The tools to understand who cares the most about what.
What truly interests your team? And why?
How much more effective could your team be if everyone understood how they could be best utilized?
It's like shifting from a fork to a spoon, and it will make everyone on the team less frustrated. Far less painful to witness, too.😉
