Pomegranates

Dec 17, 2020

I have a thing with produce.  I love it, but I don’t love washing it, chopping it...You know.  Everything involved when you don’t pay $47 for a catering platter of it at the store.

Anyway, one thing I love is pomegranate seeds on salads...generally restaurant salads because...you know...the whole prep thing.

So yesterday I coaxed myself into making a salad with pomegranate seeds on it.

I vaguely remember watching some YouTube video showing how to most efficiently cut a pomegranate...but, of course, that was when I didn’t have any.

And I considered googling it now that I did have one, but nah.  I’d figure it out on my own.  It would be fine.

So without taking the 5 minutes to google & watch a video, I cut it in half & tragically dissected the pomegranate.  Juice shot all over my shirt, the Christmas decor I had ridiculously placed near the counter & all over the floor.

I considered stopping & googling pomegranate cutting tips, but at that point my hands were a mess, I didn’t want to step into juice before cleaning it up, & I didn’t want to clean it up given I would ultimately be making more of one.

So I finished what had become a 15 minute event that easily would have taken 5 minutes with video time & would have saved me lots of cleanup time.

Sooo...What does all this have to do with anything?

We all do this, right?  Maybe it’s not the tragic dissection of a pomegranate, but we all choose to figure things out on our own a lot of the time, don't we?

Not because there are no resources available.

There's a resource available for nearly everything on the planet.  It's just a matter of figuring out where & making the choice to use it.

But because we can figure it out on our own & for some reason feel like we should, we do.

I mean...I did figure it out.  I did accomplish my goal.  I did end up with pomegranate seeds on a salad.

But it could have been accomplished in a far less tragic, cleaner, stain-free manner.

So next time I will be resourceful.

Next time I will take the 5 minutes & seek the expertise of a pomegranate cutting pro on social media.

And I encourage you to do the same. 🙂
