Something Is Better Than Nothing

Aug 09, 2021

You know that feeling when your alarm doesn't go off & you wake up late? And you're groggy & confused & oddly well rested at the same time?

I woke up at 8 yesterday morning, which was particularly confusing because I had set my alarm for 7. Turns out it matters if you set it for AM or PM.

Unfortunately, 8 is when I leave for my 8:30 workout class. That is, if I want to get there on time.

So I took another 2 minutes questioning if I should even bother going. All the reasons why I shouldn't went through my mind.

It's Saturday. I mean, people are supposed to sleep in on Saturdays, right?

I'll be late. So should I even bother?

I'll workout later today instead.

Are my workout clothes even clean?

Did I program the coffee maker?

Then I remembered how much worse regret feels than just doing the dang thing. And that any portion of the class I made it to was better than none.

I dug some clean clothes out of a laundry basket, poured some coffee for the road (because I HAD luckily programmed it) & headed out.

10 minutes late to class with 35 minutes of class to go.

35 more than if I had stayed home cause I didn't "feel" like going.

Is this always my Saturday morning decision? No. But I never regret it when it is.

Reminding myself that SOMETHING is better than NOTHING is constant. I have to remind myself every...single...day.

So easy to think...I don't have time to do that thing, so why would I even bother trying?

I'm too old...I should have done that when I was in my 20s or 30s. It's too late.

I don't have time. It's too late. I'm too old. I'm too whatever

It's never too late. Something is better than nothing

Just do the dang thing. It's very unlikely you'll regret it. And if you do, lesson learned. It's still progress.
